October 12, 2024

On the Occasion of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, Aastha Hospice unveiled the South Asian Journal of Geriatric Medicine, Surgery, Palliative Care & Hospice at an event presided over by Professor Dr. Soniya Nityanand, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of King George's Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Professor Sandeep Kumar, former Founder Director of AIIMS Bhopal and Editor-in-Chief of the journal, along with Dr. Abhishek Shukla, Senior Geriatrician & Palliative Care Specialist, who serves as the Executive Editor. The journal focuses on addressing the unmet needs of elderly care, hospice, and palliative care across the eight South Asian countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This region, with a rapidly aging population, faces significant challenges in providing specialized care for life-limiting illnesses and pain management, an area that has been largely unattended until now.

The South Asian Journal of Geriatric Medicine, Surgery, Palliative Care & Hospice, established under the banner of the Association of International Doctors (AID) and led by Aastha Centre for Geriatric Medicine, Palliative Care Hospital, Hospice & Social Welfare Society, marks a significant step in advancing quality care for the elderly and individuals with life-limiting illnesses, particularly in South Asia, where the aging population is rapidly increasing.
